Driver Involved in Labor Day 2023 Crash that Killed 4 Near Britton Arrested, Charged

UPDATE: 56-year-old Matt Allen Koester was arraigned on the charges in District Court Friday afternoon. Bond was set at $200,000. Online court records show that his next court date will be a hearing on Monday, August 19th, and a Probable Cause Conference is set for Friday, August 23rd.

Macon Twp., Lenawee County – Almost a year after the two-vehicle crash that killed 4 K&B Asphalt Sealcoating Inc. employees at the intersection of Milwaukee Road and Britton Highway, the driver of the other vehicle has been charged with four counts of reckless driving causing death.

The Michigan State Police says that the suspect was arrested Thursday evening without incident, and was lodged at the Lenawee County Jail. They will await arraignment in 2A District Court.

The fatal crash took place Labor Day, 2023. The four men were between 18 and 35 years old. Three passed away at the scene, and the four passed away at an area hospital. Their names were not made public. The crash put the other driver in intensive care.

The investigation involved the Michigan State Police Monroe Post, the Michigan State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, and the Lenawee County Prosecutor’s Office.
