Lansing, MI – State Senator Joe Bellino has turned in legislation to honor 24-year-old Monroe County Sheriff Deputy Darrian Young, who died in the line of duty in 2020.
Senate Bill 978 would designate a portion of Highway M-50 in Monroe County from South Raisinville Road to Herr Road as the ‘Animal Control Officer Darrian Young Memorial Highway.’
Young died June 6th, 2020, from injuries sustained in the line of duty when her marked Animal Control Division vehicle was hit by a drunken driver. Michele Dropulich, of Hudson, was sentenced to a minimum 17 years in prison after pleading no contest to second-degree murder. There was a sentence agreement for a cap of 17 years on the minimum sentence. Monroe County Circuit Judge Michael A. Weipert sentenced Dropulich to serve 17 to 30 years in prison in the fatal drunken-driving crash.
If the bill is signed into law, it will have no fiscal impact on state or local government.
