Highway Patrol Investigating Fatal Crash on Ohio Turnpike

Fulton County, OH – The Swanton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving two commercial vehicles Sunday night. The crash occurred at around 7:35 p.m. on the Ohio Turnpike near State Route 108 in Fulton County.

The preliminary investigation revealed a Freightliner semi operated by 40-year-old Anvar Azimov, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was traveling westbound. A Freightliner semi operated by a 39-year-old from Lewisville, Texas, was traveling eastbound on the Turnpike when his left front tire blew.

The Texas man’s vehicle crossed the grass median and struck Azimov head on. After impact, the Texan’s Freightliner overturned.

Azimov succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. The other driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
