William C. “Bill” Powell, age 75, of Palmyra, passed away at his residence, under the care of Elara Caring Hospice, on Thursday, July 25, 2024. He was born in Adrian on October 30, 1948, to the late Ralph L. and Myrna L. (Kafer) Powell. Bill attended and graduated from Adrian High School Class of 1967, and then on April 17, 1968, he entered the United States Marine Corp. On December 18, 1987, he married Susan K. Disbro, and she survives.
Bill worked for Blissfield Manufacturing for approximately 50 years, retiring in 2011. In his free time, he enjoyed restoring cars and attending car shows, traveling, camping with his grandchildren, and tinkering in the garage. Woodworking, specifically making wooden pens with his grandson, Jax, fishing on either end of Interstate 75 (Canada or the Florida Keys), riding his motorcycle to Florida, and stained glass were other hobbies that he enjoyed. Bill was a very loyal friend to all and was always the first one to disappear from a party (he was very proud of this). He was very proud of his one-liner jokes, and his service to the UAW, serving on the arbitration team, treasurer, and a delegate at conventions.
Surviving is his wife, Susan; daughter, Julie (Tony) Raines; grandchildren, Macy and Jaxton Dye; brother, Michael (Rose) Powell; and sister, Deborah (Neil) Griffith. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law, Sally Mapes and Deborah Disbro; and brother-in-law, Gene Mohler.
Memorial visitation for Bill will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home in Adrian. Memorial services will follow at 2:00 PM, with Rev. William VanValkenburg, officiating.
