Rollin Twp., MI – Well over 100 people packed the Rollin Township Hall on Thursday afternoon for a special meeting of the Rollin Township Planning Commission. The one agenda item was approval of a site plan for a Dollar General store to be located on the corner of Manitou road and main street at the south end of Devils Lake (pictured below).
The one agenda item was put aside by the commission, and instead they opened the floor to hear citizen concerns regarding construction of the store.
There was also concern from citizens and from some commission members that all documents and applications were not in order; that they had either not been received at all by the township, or that they had not been shared with the planning commission. More than one commission member voiced these concerns and questioned why a special meeting was called.
According to township ordinances, applications with all required information, drawings and fees are to be submitted to township zoning, who then has 30 days to approve or reject the applications. It is then to be shared with the planning commission who along with the zoning commission undertakes a study and approves or disapproves the application within 45 days. According to a member of the planning commission this process has not been followed.
It was unsure at the end of the meeting what next steps the planning commission will take. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Rollin Township planning commission is scheduled for Thursday, August 1 at 4pm at the township hall.
