Morenci, MI – The City of Morenci is currently undertaking improvements to their water treatment system. A post on the City’s website says that, as announced in their June 10th Public Notice, the City of Morenci’s Water Treatment Plant is bypassing iron removal filtration to replace the iron removal filter media in their system’s four filtration tanks.
With support from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and funding from a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), these upgrades aim to reduce iron levels in Morenci’s water to almost zero.
The City reports that progress on the upgrades is going well. The installation of new access points on all four filtration tanks has been completed. During this process, some wear and buildup in older parts of the system were identified, which are currently being evaluated for necessary repairs to ensure continued efficiency.
The timeline for completing these upgrades is estimated at 4-6 weeks. Throughout this process, the City of Morenci maintains its commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of their drinking water. The City says that daily testing continues to confirm that water remains safe for consumption, despite any temporary aesthetic changes residents may notice.
As the project progresses, residents will be kept informed of updates or changes. For more information or questions, contact the City of Morenci at (517) 458-6828.
