Riga, MI – A large idle corn processing plant in Riga Township has been purchased. ZFS Riga is a grain storage facility and 55-million gallon per year corn processing plant that was built in 2007… and has been out of operation since 2019.
A statement posted on the ZFS Riga website says that they are initially rehabilitating the grain receiving, storage and shipping areas of the site.
It is also evaluating the physical condition of the corn processing facility and working to see if it can assemble a business plan that can successfully compete long-term in today’s competitive corn processing industry.
Prior to being shut down, the ZFS Riga plant processed about 19 million bushels of corn each year. In addition to the ethanol production, the plant was capable of annually producing 145,000 tons of dried distillers grains with solubles, a feed supply for livestock producers in the region. Other co-products include corn oil and CO2.
