
Laurie Lynn Sword, age 66, of Hudson died at her home on Sunday, July 14, 2024, while under the care of Hospice of Hillsdale County. She was born on September 22, 1957, in Hillsdale, to Jess and Wilma (Lewis) Stahlhood. Laurie graduated from Hillsdale High School with the Class of 1975, and later earned an associate’s degree from Jackson Business College in 1994. She married Carl Sword on May 16, 2015 in the Irish Hills, and he survives.
Laurie was employed as an accountant at American Copper and Brass in their accounts receivable department. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and always found joy in a good book. She valued her time outdoors in the flower garden, kayaking, and camping with Carl. She attended services at Hillsdale United Brethren and was a member of the Hillsdale After Five, a Christian women’s group. She was a member of Pittsford Jaycees and attended cardio drumming groups in Hudson. Above all else, she cherished her family and the moments spent with them, never missing a sporting event. She was a fighter, bravely persisting through the years in her battle against chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Sianna (Jason) Spieth of Litchfield, MI; two sons, Nathan Cook of White Pigeon, MI, and Jacob (Jessica) Cook of Jonesville, MI; two step-daughters, Nicole (Joey) Gerrighty of SC, and Natalie Sword of Adrian; A step-son, Michael Sword of AL; 13 grandchildren; 8 great- grandchildren; 5 sisters, Shirley (Jeff) Proctor, Jessica Vandyke, Rosemary (Art) Brown, Caril (David) Lattas, and Kathleen Henrick; as well as a brother, Steven (Marilyn) Stahlhood. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother David, and her brother-in-law James Vandyke.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Eagle-Marry Funeral Home, Hudson. A funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 6:00 p.m. Cremation will take place and inurnment will take place at a later date in Maple Grove Cemetery in Jefferson Township, Hillsdale County.
