Adrian, MI – The Adrian City Commission has approved ballot language, to be submitted for review by the State of Michigan, to put a renewal of the local street improvement millage on the November ballot.

They are looking to renew the collection of 1 mill per year for ten years…the current rate for local street work. The ten year rate will begin in 2026, when the current millage expires.

Adrian City Administrator Greg Elliott talked to WLEN News about the other possibilities considered by the Commission. The options included a slight increase in the millage rate, or making the term of the millage shorter than ten years…

Elliott outlined reasons why the City Commission did not want to pursue a millage increase or shorter term…one of them being long term budgeting…

If approved, it is estimated that 1 mill would raise approximately $400,000 when first levied in 2026. If ballot language is not approved by the State of Michigan, the city will look to add it to a different ballot.
