John E. Shaffer, age 82, of Adrian, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. Born January 25, 1942, in Adrian to Percy and Minerva (Teague) Shaffer, John lived a life of faith, service, and devotion to family.

On September 16, 1962, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, John united in holy matrimony with Margaret R. Jackson, who survives him. Their union was blessed with 62 years of love and companionship.

John and Margaret spent their winters in Mercedes, Texas, enjoying God’s creation in a warmer climate. A man of many talents, John had been employed by General Motors and farmed throughout his life, tending to the land as a faithful steward. A proud Madison Trojan, he was then honored to go into service of the United States Airforce, ending his service as an Airman First Class, exemplifying duty and patriotism.

A longtime member of Bethany Assembly of God, John’s faith was central to his life. He found joy in farming and hunting, sharing his passion by teaching hunter safety for ten years, guiding others in responsible stewardship of nature.

In addition to his beloved wife, Margaret, John’s legacy lives on through his two daughters, Michelle Shaffer of Fresno, California, and Amanda Shaffer of Eugene, Oregon; three grandchildren, Janee Shaffer of Canton, Michigan, Erin Shaffer of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Nathan Armstrong of Visalia, California; a sister, Margaret (Ben) Phipps of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and two brothers, Dan (Rita) Shaffer of Hudson and James (Dorothy) Shaffer of Adrian.

John was preceded in death by his parents; son Richard Shaffer; two brothers, Charles (Jill) Shaffer and Percy Shaffer Jr.; and sisters, Florence Gebert, Luvisa Cousino, and Sharon (Art) Snyder. We take comfort knowing they are reunited in God’s eternal kingdom.

Visitation will be held at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian, on July 15, 2024, from 2-7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on July 16, 2024, also at the funeral home, with William Leach officiating. John will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery.
