Funeral/Visitation Information Announced for Fallen Hillsdale County Deputy

Hillsdale, MI – Funeral services and visitation have been scheduled for the Hillsdale County Deputy who died in the line of duty last week. 51-year-old William Henry “Bill” Butler Jr., of Hillsdale, passed away after being shot during a traffic stop on Thursday.

He was born in Oakland, California and graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1991. For over twenty years, he proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard, serving overseas during Operation Iraqi Freedom and later working as a recruiter. His obituary talked about his passion for police work, as he was employed as a Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Bill also was the broker owner and realtor for Pure Realty Team, Hillsdale Real Estate affiliate. He enjoyed fishing, boating, working out, traveling with his family, trips to the casino, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife, five children, two grandchildren, his parents, and his sister. The online obituary for William “Bill” Butler Jr. said that funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 3rd, at 11 AM at the Hillsdale College Christ Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Hillsdale.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday from 10AM-1PM and from 4PM-8PM at the Hillsdale Assembly of God Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Bill and Sarah Butler account at Fifth Third Bank or the Deputy Bill Butler Family Fund c/o the Hillsdale County Community Foundation. There have also been several other forms of online donation avenues to help support the family.
