Blissfield, MI – Two fourth graders, with one of them being from Blissfield, will get to see their electrical safety artwork displayed on a billboard this summer after winning the Midwest Energy & Communications 2024 electrical safety contest.
Serenity G. of Blissfield Blissfield Elementary reminds people to call MEC when they see a fallen powerline. Colton S. of Ruth Hoppin Elementary warns fellow kids not to climb trees near power lines.
MEC’s free hotline demonstrations teach local fourth graders about the dangers of electricity. This year’s demonstrations reached students in Morenci, Blissfield, Onsted, Schoolcraft, Three Rivers, White Pigeon, and Centreville.
As part of the demonstrations, each student is asked to create a poster that illustrates something they learned. A winning poster is selected from each school district.
Midwest Energy & Communications is a customer-owned electric cooperative which provides electricity, propane, and fiber internet solutions to rural customers across southern and west-central Michigan, northern Indiana, and northeast Ohio.
