Raisin Twp., MI – The Raisin Township Planning Commission received the preliminary site plan for a Solar Farm operation in the southeast corner of the Township.
The group held a Public Hearing for the project by Next Era, called Beecher Solar. The farm will have around 400 acres of solar panels…about half of the total acreage planned for the project. Other acreage would be used for placing underground transmission lines, a substation, and required set-backs from neighboring properties.
Project Manager Stephen Eastridge highlighted the main points of the site plan. He said that $15 million in local tax revenue will be generated and that there will be fencing and landscaping around the perimeter, in compliance with current ordinances.
Eastridge told the audience of around 50 people that the panels will rotate throughout the day, tracking the sun and creating an efficient operation.
Four residents spoke during the public hearing…two were in favor, and two were opposed.
The site plan was tabled by the Raisin Township Planning Commission for a third party to review the document… but will likely be on the agenda for their July 9th meeting for a vote.
