
Eleanor May Mackey, age 90, of Adrian, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, at ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital. She was born January 8, 1934, in Adrian, Michigan, the fifth of six children to Hubert Sr. and Mildred (Hall) Estes. She attended Adrian Public Schools and graduated with honors from Adrian High School in 1951.
Eleanor married the love of her life, Dean Mackey, on January 9, 1954, in Angola, Indiana, and they were happily married until his sudden death on July 14, 1993.
She worked at Kewaunee Scientific Equipment Corporation for 20 years and later was employed by PPG and C&J Pallets of Adrian. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene since 1976. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She also enjoyed reading histories and biographies. She was a long-time racing fan and enjoyed watching her husband and sons race in Northern Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan.
She is survived by her children, three daughters: Cheryl (Mark) Harpst of Newport News, Virginia, Deana (Michael) Cherry of Kingston, Washington, and Barbara (Dan) DeVine of Holland, Michigan; her three sons: Duane Mackey of Adrian, Steven Mackey of Ada, Ohio, and Kenneth (Cathy) Mackey of Brooklyn, Michigan. Also surviving are six granddaughters, five grandsons, 10 great grandchildren, and one sister, Janet Foster of Adrian.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, a sister, Betty Wood, and three brothers: Hubert Jr., Howard, and George Estes.
Visitation for Eleanor will take place on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian from 11:00 until the time of the service beginning at 1:00 pm. Pastor Larry Betz will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
