Swanton, OH – Many residents in and around Lenawee County heard a “boom”, and some even felt their homes shake Wednesday afternoon.

The sensations were from the 180th Fighter Wing conducting a functional check flight. A news release stated that the actual flight took place around the Bowling Green and Toledo, Ohio area, and that residents across Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan may have heard a sonic boom once supersonic speeds were reached.

The 180th Fighter Wing says that a functional check flight is conducted following heavy maintenance on the aircraft, putting the aircraft through strenuous testing and maneuvers to ensure all systems of the aircraft function properly and ensuring mission readiness, before putting the aircraft back into operational rotation.
