Rafael Soto Mendez, Jr., 58, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024. Born on November 28, 1965 in the heart of Detroit, Michigan, Rafael was the oldest of Rafael Soto and Jaine (Contreras) Mendez’s four children.
Rafael’s life was a testament to his generosity and love for others. An avid fisherman, he found solace and joy on the tranquil waters, casting lines and creating memories with friends and family. In addition to his love for fishing, Rafael was known for his culinary talents, especially within the church community. He dedicated countless hours to preparing delicious meals, sharing his love for cooking with those in need and spreading joy through food. Rafael’s talents had him working in the field of floor installation, where he helped renovate many homes over the years.
Beyond his hobbies, Rafael will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering faith. He touched the lives of many with his compassion, selflessness, and genuine desire to make the world a better place.
Rafael is survived by his children, Tommy, Tony, Tino and Marissa Mendez; grandson, Monti Mendez; and siblings, Michelle Bates, Becky Fielder and Diane Avina. He will be deeply missed by his parents and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, St. Mary’s Campus, with Fr. Bob Pienta as celebrant. Family will be greeting friends from 9:30 a.m. to the start of mass.
