Richard Smith, 71 of Clayton, MI passed peacefully at home on June 5, 2024 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born June 18, 1952 in Adrian to Leland (Ray) and Veregene Smith. He graduated from Adrian High School in 1971.
No matter what nickname you knew him by, there was only one Richard Smith, who was friendly to everyone he met. Richard loved people, music of all kinds, riding his bicycle, gardening and sharing a laugh. He cherished this life and all the people in it.
A beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and generous acts of service. He was generous with his heart, his time, his produce and his cooking. No visitor left empty handed.
Richard leaves behind a lifetime of memories, shared by so many. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Smith of Pennsylvania and son Jeremy Smith of Adrian, MI, sisters Kay Cagle of Mason and Kathy Smith of Yucca Valley, California as well as a large extended family and many lifelong friends.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Hospice of Lenawee.
