Dover Twp., Lenawee County – A married couple from Newport sustained life-threatening injuries when their motorcycle crashed into a car Sunday afternoon.

The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office said that the crash occurred just before 4:30 pm Sunday at the intersection of West Carleton Road and Benner Highway, in Dover Township.

Deputies say that the couple, a 54-year-old man and 50-year-old woman, were eastbound on Carleton Road near the Benner Highway intersection when a Toyota Corolla…driven by an 87-year-old female from the Clayton area…turned in front of the motorcycle.

Deputies say that the driver of the motorcycle was unable to avoid the crash, and struck the car. Both people on the motorcycle were transported to Henry Ford Allegiance in Jackson with serious life-threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office said that both Newport residents were wearing appropriate helmets, and the driver of the car was wearing her seatbelt. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash…which is under investigation.
