Tecumseh to receive MEDC Funds

Tecumseh, MI – The Michigan Economic Development Corporation has announced that the Michigan Strategic Fund approval of projects… including one in Tecumseh… that will build on placemaking, community revitalization, and further enhancing the state’s site readiness efforts to attract projects and population growth.

A $5 million Revitalization and Placemaking award will support something called the “Products on Evans project,” a Brownfield Redevelopment project that will rehabilitate a vacant, two-story office building near downtown Tecumseh into a 59-unit apartment community.

The site was previously the headquarters for Tecumseh Products. MEC says that this project will bring the first new apartment building to Tecumseh in over 30 years.

The city has also secured a $500,000 Brownfield Redevelopment Loan and a $500,000 Brownfield Redevelopment Grant from EGLE to assist with the costs of certain environmental assessment and remediation activities for the site.

The city is also providing a 10-year tax abatement on the development.
