Adrian, MI – Amendments to the Buildings and Building Regulations ordinance, and the addition of Point of Sale Inspections, to the City of Adrian Code of Ordinances is on the agenda for a first reading at tonight’s City Commission meeting.
Local realtors have expressed their opposition to the new proposed changes either in writing to the City Commission, or in-person at recent meetings.
The Point of Sale portion of the proposed ordinance states that the purpose is to: “Improve the livability of City of Adrian neighborhoods and to further the maintenance, preservation, improvement, and development of housing for all persons regardless of income level; by bringing them into conformity with minimum standards of the International Property Maintenance Code as adopted by the City of Adrian and other applicable provisions of the Adrian Code.”
Realtors have said that the current blight ordinance and rental inspection ordinance should be more than enough to clean up blight in the City without imposing unnecessary and costly mandates, and that the proposed changes are governmental overreach.
The changes are not up for approval tonight, but a first reading is…and approval could happen as early as the next regular meeting.
There is also a resolution on the Adrian City Commission’s agenda tonight that would approve a contract with SmithGroup for Phases one and two of the design of the Town Square Project…off of Main Street downtown.
The City Commission pre meeting will take place tonight at 6pm, with the regular meeting at 7pm at City Chambers on East Maumee Street.
