The Latest on Diesel Spill Near US-223/US-23

Monroe County, MI – The Environmental Protection Agency and Michigan Department of Environment Great Lakes and Energy have issued another update on the diesel spill at the Pilot gas station at the US-223/US-23 intersection.

EPA continues to monitor impacted locations for any evidence of sheen and or odor at several natural spring locations near the site. No impacts from the spill have been found.

On-site water treatment of oil contaminated water has been cancelled and all water collected on-site and from North Tenmile Creek will be disposed of at approved off-site facilities. On-site, fuel lines and dispenser pans have been removed. The excavation of surrounding contaminated gravel and soils is on-going.

The outfall at Sunoco and North Tenmile Creek to US-23 has been excavated and is awaiting restoration approval from EGLE. To date, 580 wells have been sampled.
