Monroe County, MI – Emergency response contractors have been developing a plan for treatment of water recovered from the on-site storm sewers and North Ten Mile Creek in Monroe County. This plan is being developed with input and oversight from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Monroe County Drain Commissioner.
The treated water will discharge to White Drain at Samaria Road, which is a separate waterway from the affected North Ten Mile Creek. EGLE and EPA visited the property owners along White Creek to discuss the discharge and provide on-site contact information for any questions.
The treatment plan allows for the onsite treatment using a process that runs collected water through Granular Activated Carbon filtration. The water will be run through the system twice before it is discharged to the county drain. The permit and operations plan ensures that the water being discharged meets or exceeds surface water quality standards in the State of Michigan.

State Representative William Bruck is hosting two town hall meetings this Wednesday for residents to ask questions and learn more information about the diesel fuel leak tracked back to a gas station off Exit 5 on U.S. 23 in Whiteford Township.
The events will begin at noon and 5 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Michael Lutheran Church, in Ottawa Lake. Representatives will be in attendance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, Monroe County, and the Pilot Company.
