Monroe, MI – A 21-year-old Frenchtown Township resident pled no contest to Second Degree Homicide in relation to the 2023 death of Kayla Sedoskey.

The Michigan State Police reports that Brin Smith entered the plea in the 38th Circuit Court of Monroe. Smith was scheduled to stand trial for the homicide later this month, but he chose to enter a no contest plea instead.

As part of his plea, Smith is facing a minimum of 40 years in prison for his role in the homicide. The Michigan State Police conducted an extensive year-long investigation into Kayla Sedoskey’s death and subsequently arrested six suspects: Brin Smith, Steven Bails, Kaylyn Ramsey, Narena Bails, Sierra Bemis, and Alexander Feko.

In late March, Steven Bails was convicted by a jury of First-Degree Homicide and Conspiracy to Commit Homicide.

Narena Bails and Sierra Bemis previously pled no contest to Second Degree Homicide, and Alexander Feko previously pled guilty to Tampering with Evidence and three counts of Accessory to Homicide after the Fact.

Kaylyn Ramsey is awaiting trial in May for the charges of First-Degree Homicide and Conspiracy to Commit Homicide. Sedoskey’s body was found in the abandoned Boysville Facility in Frenchtown Township on March 2nd, 2023.
