Tipton, MI – Lenawee County’s United States Congressman, Tim Walberg, has been in the national news this weekend for comments during a recent town hall in Monroe County.
A video posted on ‘X’ was taken during a gathering in Dundee captured a voice which sounded like Walberg…but didn’t show him… responding to a question asking why the U.S. would be “spending our money” to build a temporary port off the Gaza coast to move humanitarian aid into that region.
Walberg said he disagreed with doing so and that Israel was perhaps America’s greatest ally in the world. “We shouldn’t be spending a dime on humanitarian aid. It should be like Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Get it over quick.”
The 47-second video ended immediately after that, so no other comments were captured. The Republican Congressman from Tipton released a statement on his ‘X’ account in response to the reporting on his comments.
He said, in part, “My reasoning was the exact opposite of what is being reported: the quicker these wars end, the fewer innocent lives will be caught in the crossfire. The sooner Hamas and Russia surrender, the easier it will be to move forward. The use of this metaphor, along with the removal of context, distorted my message, but I fully stand by these beliefs and stand by our allies.”
