Monroe County, MI – A 43-year-old Ohio man died after sustaining injuries in a single vehicle car crash over the weekend in Monroe County. Sheriff Troy Goodnough reports that the crash occurred on Saturday at approximately 3:35 p.m. The crash occurred on Lewis Avenue in Bedford Township.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Jimmie Clarke was operating a gray Volvo, 4 door, northbound on Lewis Avenue, just north of Donald Drive. Witnesses following him reported that the vehicle drifted across the centerline of the roadway, then traveled off the shoulder and entered a shallow ditch.

The vehicle then struck several small trees before overturning. After impact, the vehicle came to rest on its top.

The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. At this time, neither speed, nor alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash… which is under investigation.
