Morenci Man Arrested After Wrong-Way Crash Kills Jackson Co. Resident

Jackson County, MI – A 25-year-old Morenci man was arrested and lodged at the Jackson County Jail after a wrong-way crash he was involved in on US-127 in Summit Township resulted in a fatality.

Jackson County Sheriff Gary Schuette reports that at around 5:35am Friday morning, police and fire personnel were dispatched to the three-vehicle crash at US-127 at Hart Road.

Sheriff Shuette reports that the Morenci man was traveling southbound on US 127 when he crossed over the centerline and collided with two northbound vehicles.

One of the vehicles contained a 64-year-old Jackson County resident, Curtis Cartright. He died on scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Another driver was transported to Henry Ford Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The Morenci man was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Police determined that the Morenci man was at fault. He was ultimately arrested and lodged at the Jackson County Jail on a single count of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death.
