Adrian, MI – A redevelopment plan was pitched to the Adrian City Commission for the shuttered ProMedica Bixby Hospital on Riverside Avenue. Michael Collier, with Pivot Development, was in attendance for the Pre Meeting Study Session Tuesday night to talk about his company’s plans for the old hospital.

Collier’s plan includes the demolition of the old hospital, and then the building of a build-to-rent community. He said that these units will not be for sale, and that they would be two-and-three bedroom rentals. ProMedica currently owns the land, and the shuttered building, which closed its doors in 2020 as Hickman Hospital opened theirs. Herrick Hospital, in Tecumseh, closed at that time as well.

Collier told WLEN News that he has been contracted to demolish the hospital in conjunction with ProMedica, and that he will own the land once demolition is complete. He was in Adrian Tuesday to ask the City for a pre-development loan. He said that they are common for projects like this. The exact amount is still to be determined.

Collier said that the community has been waiting for something to happen to the old hospital, so he wants the work to get underway as soon as it can. Adrian Mayor Angie Heath said that this project would help eliminate a blighted property, and add to the City’s housing stock…
