Three Fire Departments Fought Adrian House Fire

Adrian, MI – Three fire departments fought a structure fire Monday night in the 900 block of East Maple Street in Adrian.

The Adrian Fire Department along with the Madison and Adrian Township fire departments responded to the fire just before 8pm.  The person who reported the fire said that there was a male subject in the basement.  Adrian Police officers confirmed that there was a resident in the basement and heavy smoke conditions.

Adrian Fire Department crews went into the basement and found a victim unresponsive at the base of the stairs with assistance from the Madison Township Fire Department.

According to AFD Chief Aric Massingill, the victim was transported to the hospital, the fire was brought under control with the last units clearing the scene around 9:45pm.

An initial investigation found that the fire did not appear to be malicious in nature however a definitive cause has not been determined.

The Adrian Fire Department was assisted by the Adrian Police Department, Adrian Township and Madison Fire Department as well as Citizens Gas and Consumers Energy.  The Raisin Township Fire Department was on stand by.
