Sheriff: Teen Accidentally Shoots Girlfriend While Preparing to Clean Gun in Medina Twp.

Medina Twp., MI – The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office is investigation an accidental shooting in Medina Township Sunday night.

LCSO reports that at around 9:52pm, Lenawee County 911 received a call from a 19 year old male that he had accidentally shot his 16 year old girlfriend. Sheriff’s Deputies along with EMS responded to the 13000 block of Packard Road in Medina Township and made contact with the victim confirming that she had sustained a gun shot wound to the wrist and abdomen.

The Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau was called out to investigate the shooting. They say that all indications at this point are that the two were preparing to clean a .22 caliber rifle when it accidentally discharged striking the victim. Morenci Fire and EMS responded and requested ProMedica Life Flight who transported her to a Toledo Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
