Monroe, MI – Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough has announced that the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, County of Monroe, Bedford Township, and the Bedford Township Downtown Development Authority partnership with FLOCK Safety, a company that provides an Automated License Plate Reader service.
Through this partnership, installation of 4 cameras were mounted on poles within the intersection of Sterns and Secor Roads in Bedford Township. These cameras provide law enforcement with real time data to capture the make, model, color and license plate from vehicles traveling throughout Bedford Township and Monroe County.
They capture actionable evidence and send real time alerts if a wanted or stolen vehicle passes by these cameras. The alerts are sent to every officer within seconds. The sheriff’s office says that the cameras are not used for traffic enforcement, they do not take photos of the vehicle occupants and there is no facial recognition technology.
Sheriff Goodnough says that this system is not tracking citizen movement, the data is securely stored in the cloud, automatically deleted every 30 days on a rolling basis and is not sold or shared with third parties.
The Adrian City Commission recently approved the purchase and installation of FLOCK Safety cameras in the city.
