Monroe, MI –  Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough is informing citizens of a new update to Apple iPhones. The newly updated version, iOS 17 installed a feature called “NameDrop”. This feature allows you to easily share contact information and photos with another iPhone user by holding the phones close together.

If you installed the recent update on your iPhone, this new iOS 17 update is automatically set at “ON” in your iPhone settings. To turn this feature off, you must go to Settings, General, AirDrop, Bringing Devices Together and change to “OFF”.

The Sheriff’s Office finds it necessary to notify the public of this new software implementation due to this being a request that can easily be mistaken or looked past by elderly, children or other vulnerable individuals.

Keep in mind there is no way for anyone to get your information without you physically tapping the “ACCEPT” prompt.
