Lenawee County, MI – A 16-year-old Macon Township juvenile was arrested, and a Lenawee County Sheriff’s Deputy has been placed on administrative leave, after a high-speed chase last week.

The Sheriff’s office says that at approximately 10:41pm Wednesday night, a Deputy was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of M-50 near Billmyer Highway, when a SUV traveling eastbound on M-50 was observed driving at an excessively high speed and in a reckless manner.

When the Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect vehicle fled from the Deputy, maintaining a high rate of speed, turning off their headlight. Sheriff’s Office personnel attempted to end the pursuit by deploying stop sticks in the area of Holloway Road and Britton Highway.

As the spike strips were being deployed, the suspect vehicle avoided them and turned off their headlights again, and left the roadway driving directly at the assisting Deputy.

The Deputy fired two shots at the vehicle, striking it… but not the driver. The pursuit continued into Monroe County where the driver of the vehicle finally stopped and surrendered to Sheriff’s Deputies.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and lodged at the Maurice Spears Campus. The Deputy who discharged his service weapon was placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
