Adrian, MI – Three Adrian Public Schools buildings were moved into Secure Mode at around 9:30AM Tuesday morning due to what the district called a “police situation in an adjacent neighborhood.”

Adrian High, Springbrook Middle, and Alexander Elementary Schools were put in secure mode as a precaution due to the “situation.” APS Superintendent Nate Parker said that: “secure mode is used when there is potential danger outside the building. Classes continue as normal but increased vigilance is employed for the perimeter of the building. There has been no threat to any APS students staff members, or buildings. Secure mode provides extra diligence and security against an outside threat but allows us to continue to operate as usual within the buildings with extra vigilance.”

The district moved out of Secure Mode shortly after 1PM Tuesday afternoon. Parker issued this statement:

“At this time, Adrian High School, Springbrook Middle School and Alexander Elementary will be moving out of Secure Mode. The Adrian Police Department has resolved the situation in the Adjacent Neighborhood. Working with School Resource officer Josh Perry and the Adrian Police Department through our established protocols and procedures, the determination has been made to return to our normal operating mode. Thank you to staff, students, local law enforcement and all involved for their cooperation and assistance in ensuring the safety of our schools.”

Details on the “police situation” have not been released by the Adrian Police Department.
