Adrian, MI – The Lenawee County Health Department issued several tips on preparedness for the upcoming winter weather. Severe winter storms can sometimes cause power outages. Make sure your basic needs are met by preparing ahead of time for an emergency. Besides food and water, here are some things to plan for:
Pills
Do you have enough medication to last you a week or two? During the ice storm in February, thousands of Lenawee County residents were without power more than 5 days. Plan ahead because after a storm, you might not be able to travel to a pharmacy. Pharmacies might also not be open.
Power
When storms are predicted, take a moment to charge up your phone and other devices. Consider also purchasing a portable charger. Make sure you know how to use it ahead of time, so you’re not caught off guard. That way you can keep your devices charged if they run out of battery.
Pets
Over half of Lenawee County households have at least one pet, with several owning more than one. Do you have supplies in place to take care of these important family members in an emergency?
Purse/Wallet/Phone
Many people keep important information in their purse, wallets and phones. Make them easy to access in an emergency by always keeping them in the same spot, for example, by your front door, or next to your bed.
