Adrian, MI – The Adrian City Commission held both a pre meeting study session and regular meeting on Monday of this week, and did not revisit the recent revelation that Mayor Angie Heath signed documents representing the City for a federal grant application.
At a pre meeting two weeks ago, Commissioner Kelly Castleberry said that the Mayor signed a grant application submitted to Housing and Urban Development…commonly referred to as HUD…through the Lenawee County Continuum of Care. It was also disclosed that, based on the City lacking certain supporting documents, she did not have the authority to sign it.
Mayor Heath admitted to signing the application, and said that she had signed for other grant applications in the past. This prompted Commissioners Castleberry and Gordon Gauss to call for a Special meeting, which was held on October 9th.
The Commission voted to have Mayor Heath meet with City Attorney John Gillooly and City Administrator Greg Elliott, and go over grant applications signed by the Mayor…to get a scope of what she signed, and to see if she misrepresented the City.
Heath was not present at that meeting, and her absence was excused by the Commission. WLEN News later confirmed with Heath that she had a medical emergency on October 9th…and that’s why she was not at the Special meeting.
WLEN News followed-up with Gillooly about the meeting that he, Elliott, and Heath were told to have. He said that he did not have all of the documentation from area organizations, and therefore had not met, as of Monday night.
