Newly-Appointed Director of State Police has Adrian Ties

Lansing, MI – Following the retirement of Colonel Joe Gasper, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has appointed Col. James F. Grady The Second to serve as the 20th Director of the Michigan State Police…who has ties to Adrian.

Col. Grady is a 25-year veteran of the MSP who most recently served as commander of the Training Division.

In 1998, he joined the MSP as a trooper, serving at the former Adrian and Detroit posts.

In 2015, Grady was promoted to detective first lieutenant and section commander of the Fraud Investigation teams.

In 2018, he was promoted to assistant division commander within the Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division.

In 2020, Col. Grady was promoted to captain and became commander of the Michigan State Police Training Division.

As Director, Col. Grady also serves as State Director of Emergency Management and as Michigan’s Homeland Security Director.
