Raisin Twp., MI – Around 100 Raisin Charter Township residents showed up to a recent Planning Commission (PC) Meeting and many of them voiced their displeasure for a proposed Sand and Gravel pit off of Occidental Hwy. and Gady Road.

Lucky Strike Sand and Gravel LLC submitted a Site Plan to the PC, which was reviewed and discussed. There was a public hearing held during the meeting, which gave residents an opportunity to give their thoughts and feedback on the proposed project.

The operation would be located at 5000 Occidental Highway, right next to the new Midwest Energy and Communications building.

A representative from Lucky Strike Sand and Gravel was at the meeting Tuesday evening, and talked about their plans for the site. He talked about extraction techniques, plans for operating times, and the steps they would take for noise reduction.

The residents that spoke during the public hearing said that they had concerns with noise, truck traffic on Occidental, impacts on local wells, and other possible environmental impacts.

The Raisin Township Planning Commission voted to table the application. They said that there are several things with the document that must be corrected, and additional information must be added before they could approve or deny the application.
