Tecumseh, MI – City of Tecumseh voters will be asked in November to move forward with a revision of the current city’s charter.

Voters will see the question: “Shall there be a general revision of the charter of the City of Tecumseh?”. To which they will be asked to answer ‘Yes’ or ‘No.’

Tecumseh’s current city charter was adopted in December 1953 and took effect in January, 1954. Since that time, the City says that language has become outdated, processes have changed, and there is an overall lack of reference to state statutes. A city charter revision can only be accomplished with the support of its constituents.

The revision of a charter requires a Charter Commission of nine members as prescribed under Michigan law. These individuals are responsible for reviewing the current charter and any proposed changes, as well as submitting the proposed revisions to the Attorney General.

The current charter can be accessed on the City of Tecumseh website… paper copies are available in the City Clerk’s office.
