22-Year-Old Man Drowns in Lenawee County Lake

Woodstock Twp., MI – The body of a drowning victim was recovered from a Lenawee County lake Sunday night. Sheriff Troy Bevier reports that 22-year-old Joseph Richard Hedke, from Gibraltar, was found by Marine Divers just after 7pm.

Lenawee County Central Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a possible drowning on Silver Lake, in Woodstock Township, at around 2:20am Saturday. Witnesses who were with the man told Deputies that the man was a passenger on the boat which was traveling on the lake at a fairly good speed when the 22 year old man dove into the water and possibly came into contact with the boat.

Witnesses said that the man did not surface, and when attempts to locate him were not successful, they called 911. There were five persons on the boat, including the missing man when this happened. Sheriff Bevier says that alcohol appears to be a factor.

The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office thanked the residents of Silver Lake and their Association for all the support to the searchers and the Family. Dive Teams from Calhoun County Sheriff, DNR, MSP, Jackson County Sheriff, Oakland County Sheriff assisted in the search and recovery.
