Adrian, MI – Two school districts in Lenawee County are working to get electric buses on the roads, and one is closer than the other.
Britton-Deerfield Schools have five vehicles ready to go, with chargers installed as well. Brian Wheeler, with Consumers Energy, told WLEN News Monday that BD is only waiting on permitting from the State of Michigan.
Sand Creek Schools have also been awarded buses, but they do not have them on campus yet. They are making progress, according to Wheeler, and will get two buses.
Consumers Energy provided a rebate for the buses’ charging stations and are doing the electrical work. Funding for the vehicles is not subsidized by Consumers…however, some districts have utilized Federal Funding.
Jackson School District also has big plans…to have 21 electric school buses. Their timeline is uncertain.
