Motorcyclist Dies in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Macon Township Tuesday Evening

Macon Twp., MI – A 68-year-old motorcyclist from Ypsilanti died in a crash in Macon Township Tuesday evening.

Lenawee County Sheriff Troy Bevier says that at approximately 5:20 PM, Deputies responded to a report of a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Britton Highway and Clinton-Macon Road. According to information provided to 911 Dispatch, two motorcycles and a vehicle were involved in the crash with a possible deceased person and a person trapped in the vehicle.

Deputies determined that a 41 year old female from Romulus was driving a Chevrolet Trax, traveling west on Clinton-Macon Road and failed stop at the stop sign. Two motorcyclist were traveling northbound on Britton Highway and entered the intersection at the same time as the Chevrolet Trax. The motorcycle driven by the Ypsilanti man collided with the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second motorcyclist, 37 year old male also from Ypsilanti was able to avoid hitting the vehicle, however left the roadway striking the ditch. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The motorcyclists were father and son.

The driver of the Chevrolet vehicle also sustained non-life threatening injuries from the crash and was transported to a local hospital for medical care, there were no other passengers in the vehicle. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor to the crash. The deceased was wearing a helmet, unknown on the second motorcyclist.

Names of the crash victims are being withheld until notification of the family and completion of the investigation. The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Ridgeway Fire Department, the Lenawee County Accident Investigation Team, Lenawee County Community Ambulance and the Lenawee County Medical Examiner’s Office.
