Rollin Twp., MI – A wheat field fire between Addison and Hudson burned 175 acres of stalks and straw Monday night. Village of Addison Fire Chief David Aungst told WLEN News that they were called to the farm on Plank Road near Rollin Highway at 5:43pm.
Area departments from the City of Hudson, Clayton Village, City of Morenci, and Jefferson Township assisted.
Chief Aungst said that the field overall is about 500 acres, with 175 of them impacted by the fire. He said that the wheat was already harvested, but the stalks and straw had not been bailed yet. Farmers were in the field working at the time of the field fire.
The specific cause of the fire is under investigation, but is not considered to be suspicious at this time. Fire crews filled their tanker trucks from nearby Posey Lake. There were no injuries reported at the field fire.
Chief Aungst said that they had the fire extinguished by 8:19pm Monday, but were called back periodically to take care of hot spots until just before 11pm.
