Clinton, MI – A bat in Lenawee County has rabies. The County Health Department reported Wednesday afternoon that the bat was found in the Village of Clinton. It is the first rabies-positive bat identified in Lenawee this year.

Rabies is a deadly, but preventable, disease. The Health Department says that rabies can spread to people from bats after minor, seemingly unimportant, or unrecognized bites or scratches.

If someone has been bitten by an animal or has been in contact with, exposed to, or bitten by a bat, contact the Lenawee County Health Department as soon as possible. They say to not let the bat go…instead safely capture the bat for rabies testing.
