Onsted, MI – The Cambridge Township Board of Trustees will meet tonight to take action on two ordinances pertaining to mining and mining control.

The board placed a moratorium on mining operations back in December, 2022 while they could update what they called outdated ordinances.

They contracted a group to look at, and rewrite, portions of the ordinances. The Board has received extensive community feedback from a group called Protect Irish Hills. They are opposed to a proposed mining operation off of US-12 and Killarney Highway. The company seeking to mine the area, and ultimately turn it into a lake, is suing the township in Lenawee County Court.

The Cambridge Board of Trustees will also discuss the Fire Chief Contract and will interview candidates for the soon-to-be-vacated Clerk position.

The meeting will take place at 7pm tonight at the Cambridge Township Hall on Onsted Highway, just north of M-50.
