Bedford Twp., MI – A Temperance man died from injuries after his John Deere Backhoe Tractor ran him over while he was conducting maintenance Sunday afternoon.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident happened in the 9100 block of Summerfield Road in Bedford Township just before 3pm.
The tractor went into gear for unknown reasons, accelerated, and struck 65-year-old Elmer Jones, who was working on the backhoe.
The tractor then struck Jones, and ran him over. It then hit a tree, crashed into a fence, and a barn before coming to rest.
Jones was transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Alcohol is not a factor in the crash, with remains under investigation.
