Family Dog Bites and Kills Infant in Madison Twp.

Madison, MI – An infant died of dog bite injuries in Madison Township. Police Chief Michael Shadbolt said that the attack happened Monday, June 19th at approximately 5 p.m.

The Madison Township Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a residence on Harold Street for an 11-month-old infant that had been bitten by the family dog while playing in the back yard with adult supervision.

Upon arrival of medical personnel, the 11-month-old infant was immediately transported to ProMedica Hickman Hospital. The infant later died at the hospital because of the injuries received from being bit by the dog.

Shadbolt said that the dog was a 5-year-old Pitbull mix breed and had been a family pet. The dog was later removed from the residence and was euthanized.

The Madison Township Police and Fire Departments were assisted by the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department, Lenawee County Sheriff Animal Control unit and the Lenawee County Victim Services unit.
