Milan, MI – A fatality occurred at the Milan Dragway late Saturday afternoon. Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough reported that a Chevrolet Camaro, Z28 Funny Car experienced a mechanical malfunction, and accelerated at a high rate of speed…striking a 78 year old man.
A 31-year-old man from Holland was operating the vehicle in reverse on the drag strip.
After striking Keith Hallett, of Waterford, who was standing at the rear of the vehicle…the Funny Car crashed into another car.
The driver of the Funny car was wearing safety apparel at the time of the crash, and alcohol is not a factor. Hallett was transported to a hospital in Ypsilanti, where he was pronounced deceased.
The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division and the National Hot Rod Association.
