NAACP of Lenawee Announces Date for Local Juneteenth Celebration

Adrian, MI – The NAACP of Lenawee will be hosting an event celebrating Juneteenth, the day in American history that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.

This year’s event is taking place on Saturday, June 17th from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Maumee Street in downtown Adrian.

The celebration will include live R&B Funk Music performances by Distant Cousinz and B!G L & Code Blu, booths from the Adrian District Library, Lenawee County Health Department, and many other non-profit and community organizations will line the streets.

There will also be activities for children, including a bounce house, trivia, and giveaways. An adult cornhole tournament will begin at 3 p.m. My Cousin Vinny’s is providing $10 haircuts from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

A blood drive will occur inside the Adrian District Library from 11 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19th, 1865, the day Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all enslaved people were now free… more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
