Woodstock Twp., MI – Additional details have been released about a fatal crash on US-223 that took place in Lenawee County over the weekend.
The Michigan State Police reported on their Twitter page that Troopers from the Monroe Post were dispatched to a two-car fatal crash just before 3pm Saturday afternoon.
The two-car crash occurred at US-223 and Herold Highway, in Woodstock Township. The investigation showed that a line of three cars were traveling east, with the lead car being driven by a 79 year old man from Cement City. MSP says that the man, later identified as 75-year-old Ronald Pioch, slowed down to turn left onto Herold Highway.
The third vehicle in line, a pickup truck driven by a 73-year-old male attempted to pass the vehicles, and crashed into the car driven by Pioch. Pioch died at the scene, and the pickup driver was taken to a hospital.
The State Police later identified a second person to die from the crash, Ronald Pioch’s wife, 78-year old Philomena. It turns out they were both from Grand Ledge, not Cement City.
