Adrian, MI – The Lenawee Historical Society has announced a fundraising campaign to finance the renovation of its home in the historic Carnegie Library building.
Located at 110 East Church Street in Adrian, the building opened to the public in 1909 as the Adrian Public Library and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
The society says that the building is showing its age through the wear and tear of over 100 Michigan winters. They say that there is considerable cosmetic damage to interior wall and ceiling surfaces caused by moisture penetration through exterior brick walls and an aging foundation drainage system.
Although the current damage is essentially cosmetic, if left unchecked, it could eventually cause structural problems.
The Society is appealing to the public, as well as local businesses and civic groups, for support and donations to preserve and protect it.
They are a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt non-profit organization. Phase One will be to seal and waterproof the foundation and repair-install an exterior drainage system.
Phase Two will be to paint all exterior wood surfaces. This phase also includes repairing and painting soffits and fascia as needed. Phase One is scheduled to begin this month.
